On the Aerodynamic Sound Generated by a Subsonic Flow Past a Circular Cylinder

The aerodynamic sound generated by a three-dimensional cylinder on a turbulent flow with Re = 10.000 at M0 = 0.2 and M0 = 0.5 is studied. Compressible large-eddy simulations are performed using an explicit fourth-order spectral element method. The far-field noise generated by the interaction of the cylinder and the turbulent flow is then predicted using the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings analogy.
